This is a write-up/student planner for a project I assigned to my students after reading the book, “Number the Stars” by Lois Lowry.
We created flipbooks that had 7 flaps by stapling paper together. You could modify this to just create a 7-page book, or creating an online format! This document is editable so that you can modify it to fit your learners and learning needs!
This flipbook lets students show how they use their reading skills to interpret and comprehend the book.
This file also includes a detailed lesson plan for how to carry it out (plus a condensed version), and a research rubric!
***Note: This file includes the link to an online folder I made with resources for the time period (World War 2). There are a lot of great resources, and I did a very thorough search to make it so that my students, or anyone who downloads this product, would have to spend time searching for more resources that would be appropriate (unless of course you wanted to!)
For the research portion of the assignment, I found online resources that I deemed appropriate for my students. It is difficult to find resources about the Holocaust for children, so it may be a good idea to look through the sites to make sure it works for your students! It is a more advanced and sensitive subject, so while I shielded students from sites about concentration camps, etc., there are still sensitive issues on these websites. From these sites, students can click on other things that would take them elsewhere. Because of the sensitive subject, I told students to only go to the pages in the “Wonderings” folder, and not to click on other resources (same risk as with anytime students are doing online research). This portion can also be optional, depending on whether you want your students to do the research or not!
