Numberless word problems are a great way to have students start to think about strategies to use for problem-solving. We know there are times when looking for “clue” or “key” words won’t help and times when extra numbers just confuse things. Each of these slides builds upon the previous one. Have students start writing or sharing their thinking about the problem with the 1st slide and give them the freedom to change it throughout the problem. Also, give them the freedom to use any strategy to solve the problem as long as it gets them to the answer. Great for math talks or math journals, morning work, center work, whole or small group.
