This packet provides students an opportunity to practice one-to-one correspondence when counting, writing/recording numbers in both their numeral and word form, as well as identifying numbers. Seeing as all numbers are composed of some form of the digits 0-9, it is important that students be fluent with these numbers and master them early on. It is also important that students be confident counters. I would first give students tangible items to be counted so they can experience one-to-one correspondence through hands-on learning, having them slide one item at a time over to the new pile as they count. When transferring this skill to counting items on a paper, items that cannot be moved, I often invite students to move from left to right when counting and to put a slash, dot, or even the actual number counted to show that the object has been accounted for.
