This document includes instructions, an example, a student page, and a class page.
This activity is especially great for math classes and the first week of school! You may choose to do this in class or assign as a simple homework assignment. Options include the following:
1. Create a class “Get to Know Each Other” Book with the following page to be used a cover. The class may brainstorm important numbers in their school, such as the number of students in the class, the age of the students, the address of the building, etc. To challenge students you may also include class averages, such as the average height or the average shoe size.
2. Create Individual “Get to Know Me” Posters. You may use this printable mounted on construction paper or allow students to be creative with poster boards. To share, instruct students to find someone with one of the same numbers as they have listed on their paper and compare the meaning of that number to each person’s life. Display posters on the walls in the classroom or in the hallway.
3. Use this as a first journal entry in their Math notebooks to decorate the first page and help students to become excited about starting the year!
Depending on the age level of your students, you may choose to give clear directions and requirements such as include at least eight different special numbers, include a picture, and use color.
