You will need interlocking cubes to use this numbers and numerals resource. You need the cubes that can connect in multiple directions instead of a single direction. The cubes need to have one surface with a peg. The other five surfaces of the cube need to have holes for connecting. Do NOT attempt to use UNIFEX cubes with this product – it won’t work. I recommend that a lesson about interlocking cubes be taught prior to setting up a numeral building center with this resource. A 5E lesson plan for acquainting children with interlocking cubes is included in this product.
These printable numeral-number sheets provide children that have unique learning styles an opportunity to work with numerals tactilely and in three dimensional forms. Using interlocking connecting cubes, the students follow the pattern provided on their printable pages and “build” the numerals. Photographic posters of each numeral from 0 to 9 are provided so that a numeral building center can be created if desired. In addition to numeral building practice, the center will also be a problem solving activity as students count the number of cubes needed to build each side of a numeral. The numeral posters are in greyscale format to minimize ink usage. The student printable pages print in black ink.
Students trace the numeral presented on the page four or five times. The numerals that are traced measure at approximately one inch.
Counting practice and numeral identification are also incorporated into the printable sheets.
There are three different formats included in this product so that you have choices as well as the option to have repeated practice of the same numeracy standards. Two of the formats are shown in the thumbnails and the third format can be viewed in the preview file.
This resource is for kindergarten level however older students with special needs may also benefit from this resource.
