This is a sheet created for the Van de Walle Activity of the similar name.
Students find the total of numbers, squares (hundreds), sticks (tens), and dots (ones).
It is very powerful because students practice place value skills, adding, and skip counting through this activity.
There are many different entry points and ways kids can find the total.
They could go in order as numbers and pictures appear in the row.
They can start with the number and add on ones until they get to a friendly number, then add hundreds or tens, then the remaining ones.
Or they could start with a number like 27, then skip count by tens...37, 47, 57..etc.
There are 5 differentiated sheets to use with your class, from very low to high abilities.
