This math powerpoint presentation teaches students numbers through fifty. This lesson is aligned with the skills covered in 10.3 Houghton Mifflin Math - 1st grade. The first page is a homework check aligned with the math book. The lesson opens with the "Problem of the Day" in which students are given a multi-step word problem. The next few slides are cuisenaire rods and individual blocks, along with tens/ones place mats in which students are to identify how many tens, how many ones, then determine the number. The next slide gives the teacher the option for a warm-up activity (found in book, or teachers can incorporate their own). Next, the students are given more cuisenaire rod activities. Then, they are given place mats and numbers, and are asked how many tens and how many ones are in those numbers. The next slide gives students directive on pages they are to complete out of the book. Last is a closing activity/journal prompt.
*This lesson runs a lot more smoothly if you are using the Houghton Mifflin Math textbook. However, the textbook is NOT required, and the lesson can stand on its own. The presentation has 21 total slides, but I've only listed that it has 17, because 4 slides refer solely to the text. So if you are using the textbook, then 21 slides will be to your use for this lesson. If you are not, you still have 17 useful slides for this lesson.
