Numbers and Operations
Around the World Scavenger Hunt
Students answer 12 questions as they “travel” around the world in this unique scavenger hunt. The problems involve operations with fractions and integers, addressing the idea of opposites (additive inverses) and applying the concepts to real situations. (as described by CCSS 7.NS.A.1,2,3)
Prep is easy and minimal. All you need to do is print the 12 country/question cards front to back (a work-around is provided in the event your printer does not handle front/back printing) and print one response sheet per student. That's it! Answers are included.
Students love any excuse to be up and out of their seats... so give them a good reason to move around (while practicing math skills).
A worksheet is included for students to use as they walk about and solve the equations. The answers to one equation lead to the next country, identified by a passport stamp. You can assign a starting point for each student to keep them spread around the room.
You could even use these cards for an interactive bulletin board!
Or use the activity on Math Night as a challenge for students' parents/guardians!!
