### PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

These activities were designed to be used as an option for hands-on exploration of place value concepts. They are to be completed in small groups or math work stations. There are NO reflection sheets provided in this packet. Please laminate for durability and provide students with dry erase markers to complete activities. Activities will require students to interact and discuss number concepts in order to solve math problems.

Print, copy, and laminate all pages for durability. Students will record responses onto each activity using dry erase markers.

Open Number Lines…. The Learner Will order whole numbers up to 120 using place value and open number lines. Consider taping a strip of painters’ tape on the floor or providing a long blank line for students to order numbers and explain reasoning for number placement. Divide the cards into sets of 20 for students to order at one time. Copy onto colored cardstock, laminate for durability. TEK 1.2F

Math Riddles…. The Learner Will use previously taught place value concepts to solve number riddles. 3 types are provided: +/-1. +/-10 on the 120 grid, thinking backwards and number line concepts of greater than and less than. TEK 1.2D

Magnifying the 120 Grid. TLW use a 120 grid to fill in missing numbers. Consider providing students with small magnifying glasses to take a closer look at the 120 grid to find the needed numbers to complete each puzzle. TEK *1.2D

Roll it. Name it. Write it! TLW roll dice in order to build 2 or 3 digit numbers. There are 3 cubes provided. Copy onto cardstock for durability, cut and fold to assemble. Each die has snowmen in place of a number so that when rolled, students will practice using the number 0 as a place holder when there is not a digit 1-9 present. Make additional copies of Page 35, as needed, for students to use with EXPO dry erase markers to record the numbers rolled. *TEK 1.2C

Missing Numbers {on the number line}: TLW use prior knowledge of number line concepts to record missing numbers. *TEK 1.2F

Snowball Number Order: TLW pull 5 snowballs labeled with random numbers from a bag or box and place them in order from least to greatest or greatest to least. Proved 1 “I Can…’ statement of choice. *1.2F

Snowmen Comparisons: TLW will record the digits needed to make the standard form represented by base-10 blocks, then place a snowball in between the two snowmen to compare the numbers as less than, greater than or equal to. *TEK 1.2CEG
