This standard-based project really engages students and encourages family involvement and feedback. With a family member, students will prepare the weekly grocery list containing 12 foods that the family typically eats. Students will download the free app, Shopwell-healthy diet & grocery food scanner, (option: Fooducate) and complete the introduction information based on their family’s health needs. Students will go to the grocery store with a family member. Using the app, students will scan the barcodes of their weekly foods to find out if they are a good match for their family’s health goals. As a family, they must decide whether to buy the food or the healthier options provided by the app.
Note: The free fooducate app may be easier to use for your students. Both are great apps
