Students will first learn which foods belong in which food group. Students learn to categorize their food according to the food groups, and they will do an activity where they make a plate of food in the correct categories. They will then do activities that will help them identify foods that are nutritious and know how much of each food they should eat. They will also be able to track their food intake and plan for healthy eating. The guidelines I used for these lessons came from the U.S. Government’s website, www.choosemyplate.gov. You can look there for more helpful information. All of the nutrition guidelines are based on current FDA guidance as of May 2017.
