Christmas songs offer great opportunity to introduce new technical challenges such as low 2nd and high 3rd fingers and the anacrusis requiring starting with an up bow.
O Christmas Tree is basically easy for young students to play. It is very helpful if they know the melody and words before learning to play the song. (On purpose, I have chosen a very simple version of the words, which still keep the flavour of the German original.)
The exercise sheets isolate the new challenges. (pp.2 and 8)
The worksheets encourage the visual skill of note reading and the knowledge of the notes on the violin fingerboard. (pp.3 and10)
The inclusion of the song in solfa focuses on singing, on hearing intervals - an invaluable skill for string players. (p.4)
