This is absolutely my favorite deck of phonics drill cards!!!
The product contains 108 phonics drill cards, cut and laminated into an easy to use drill deck. These cards are the hard version of my digital product, "O-G Phonics Drill Cards (vertical) with teacher's code for accuracy", which includes cards for all sound-spelling options an Orton-Gillingham tutor will teach.
This set of drill cards has been printed, cut, and laminated with 5ml laminating film. (Most school laminators use 1.5 ml.) The pouch lamination system creates a consistent and exact size for every single card. The cards are durable and easy to handle, about the size of a playing card. The cards have the flexibility of a credit card. In other words, they don't bend easily. The size of the card fits in my hand easily, and the deck can be shuffled like regular playing cards.
As an Orton-Gillingham tutor, I use a different deck of drill cards for each of my students. Since each Orton-Gillingham lesson is individualized for a particular student, each student requires a different deck. By having a deck for each student, I am able to add cards to each student's deck as I introduce letter/sound options.
As a tutor, I have used drill cards from several curriculum sets, and these cards are my favorite. With a packaged curriculum, you only get one deck of cards. When I decided to make my own cards, I knew I wanted something easy to handle. With the high-quality, heavy-weight lamination, these cards are so durable and so easy to use that they allow me to move through the drill portion of an Orton-Gillingham lesson (Associations 1, 2, & 3) at excellent pace. You will really like them!
One side of the card has a letter or letters. The other side of the card lists the sound options and key words for the letter(s) on the front. The student will only see the letter side of the card. The backside of the card is for the teacher’s reference and her use only.
The primary difference between this set and my other product listing for phonics drill cards: the cards in this deck are printed vertically rather than horizontally, so the card fits in the hand differently. It is a matter of preference for the tutor as to which one she prefers. Secondly, the font on the letter side provides an authentic visual for letter formation. Each letter resembles a student's print manuscript for a handwritten letter. In other words, the letters "a" and "g" look like a student would write an "a" and a "g". I have not found a published set of of phonics cards anywhere that have an authentic visual like the ones I have made in this set.
These cards are an excellent resource for a beginning tutor or home-schooling parent who does not have training in early literacy. The key on the back of the card ensures purity and accuracy of the Orton-Gillingham approach.
I have also included is an explanation of Associations 1, 2, & 3 and directions for using the cards in the Orton-Gillingham lesson.
