Since the author's background is extremely important to this text, students need to spend time researching Oscar Wilde.
Prior to reading the text, students will work cooperatively to research one aspect of the author's life (the handout has categories). They will create a PowerPoint or Google presentation to display the knowledge they gained and present their findings to the class. In addition, they must have at least five sources and a work cited page at the end of their presentation. As each group presents, the rest of the class will take notes on the information to gain a well-rounded view of the author's life.
As an informal (or formal) assessment, students will create a timeline of the information gathered.
My students love this text - especially the ending! It is a great choice to utilize in the classroom. I have used it in English II as well as English IV. I have many other items for sale concerning this text. Please check them out!
