While performing a close reading of the text, students will create an epigram journal (didactic journal) with an entry for each chapter to increase comprehension and connect to real life. In addition this journal can be used as a reading check. This three page document contains directions as well as a sample of what the completed chart might look like. Since there are many quotations that can be used to respond to for each chapter, I just included a former's students chart for teachers to utilize as a "key".
