This graphic organizer provides students with a lasting visual memory for the components of good opinion writing.
The visual is based on the acronym for OREO:
This 2-page set includes a planning guide for an opinion writing piece and a small poster to display.
I have used this with my 3rd grade students many times. I start with this guide and eventually wean them off of it. This visual remains in their mind and guides them later on our end-of-the-year tests. I have my students create a "triple-stuffed" Oreo for a 5-paragraph essay. This same format can be used for a 1-paragraph or 3-paragraph piece for younger students. The "Reasons" and "Evidence" can be put into one middle paragraph or included as the body of one paragraph.
I hope your students find this useful!
