OTHELLO-Act 4 Activities for Comprehension and Analysis

Othello reaches the point of no return in Act 4. Iago appears honest and devoted.
Shakespeare’s characterization has run the spectrum by Act 4 of Othello. The protagonist is completely deceived by his trusted lieutenant and is at the mercy of his manipulation. Othello, once strong and confident is now weak and hapless.

This activity clarifies character, plot, imagery, motivation, and devices such as irony.

The activity can be used for independent reading, as a discussion guide, or as an assessment.

On four pages, there are thirty-eight questions.

Questions are divided by scenes.

Some questions have questions within the questions; some require textual evidence; and some require students to provide textual evidence.

I’ve included an identical detailed key.

The format is attractive with clear font, appropriate graphics, and space provided for student responses.
