My students have become so excited about learning their sight words since using these products. My goal was to provide an incentive to learn their sight words with minimal fuss. Even my students who hadn’t learnt their alphabet, were completely engaged, which in turn helped their reading.
One student labelled the children who had learnt all 100 words as ‘Power Learners’. I love that name!
The pack is divided into five sections:
**Take Home Sheets**
These sheets are sent home for students to learn (one sheet at a time). When they independently read a word, they colour in a face (no more than one a day). They are then tested each week (by a helper or teacher’s aide) and I sign off that they have completed that level.
A scented sticker is a great incentive!
Once the students can read the entire 100 words, they are given a certificate. There are two options – one with a boy, the other with a girl.
I enlarge the wall posters to A3, laminate them and hang them in the classroom. The students constantly refer to them as they are writing.
I use the large flashcards for my students to read as a whole class as they are easy to read. Laminate them for longevity.
The small flashcards are used for testing the students individually. Laminate them for longevity.
I hope your students enjoy learning their sight words as much as mine!
