This is a vowel team word sort activity for the OY/OI sound! This can be used in a variety of ways, including vocabulary practice, spelling pattern practice, and just a plain old word sort. I’m sure you can find other uses too!
This activity was designed for 2nd Grade readers who are learning vowel teams and spelling patterns. Some of these words are more complex, given that two of the 2nd Grade learning targets are reading words with prefixes and suffixes, and reading words with open and closed syllables. Some of the words incorporate these plus the featured vowel patterns. I have used this for 1st Graders as well, I just omit the harder words.
Print the word lists out on cardstock and laminate them for a more durable product. You can also print the different long vowel teams from my other sets on different colors to color code the vowel teams for students who are struggling to remember what long sounds go with what vowel teams.
I hope you find this useful in your classroom!
