Are you struggling to find a way to help your students understand the difference between observations, inferences, and predictions? Would you like to save your evenings and skip tons of prep work and planning? Then this activity is for you.
Students will learn and practice making observations, inferences, and predictions through various images. There are many ways this activity can be used, so look below for some ideas.
Independent Work- Give students all the photos and have them work individually on each one. Have them share what they produce.
Group Activity- Put students in groups and give each group a different picture. Have them create their own answers, then share with the group. Students can decide on the best answer.
Formative Assessment- Give students one picture and have them give you an observation, inference, and prediction. You could also add “qualitative” and “quantitative” observations, if you are looking for a greater challenge.
Gallery Walk- Post the pictures around the classroom. Have students walk around the room writing answers on Post-It notes. Challenge students to write an answer that is not already posted.
Virtual Learning- Place students in breakout rooms and give each room a photo. Have the students discuss their answers in their small groups.
Bell Ringer- Post a picture for students to work on at the start of class.
