This activity is designed to prepare students to develop their outdoor observation skills through demonstrations and practice so that they become proficient in interpreting their environments. Once a routine of recording observations has been established, the data that is collected can be used in the classroom to make connections to learning across the curriculum.
Included in the journal are guidelines for it's use in your classroom. Procedures to establish a sit spot for your students, expectations for recording observations and an introduction for creating scientific drawings are outlined in the guide. A sample entry is also included for you to use in introducing this activity to your students.
The digital file is designed to be printed double sided in order to create a booklet which can be easily transported outside. The eight included individual journal record sheets can be duplicated to include as many as necessary to complete the activity with your students.
