This lab sheet can be used with the simple experiment of dropping a sugar cube in water and observing what happens. (Most students these days are not even familiar with sugar cubes, so this is a fun one!) It is especially useful if you want the students to be involved in the planning process (it goes well with the planning and implementing scientific investigations standard) and/or to practice their observation skills. I often use it after teaching the scientific method (though it has a description of each stage included) and introducing what "observation" means. I like to give students hand lenses to observe small details during this lab.
