Observe, Question, and  Infer | Usage & Idea Guide

  • Use this graphic organizer for your science teaching and learning! Students can use it to evaluate an experiment or when watching a scientific video to record the observations, questions, and inferences of the experts! This would also work well at a science center for older students.
  • An ELA teacher may also find this graphic organizer beneficial for teaching inferencing.
  • Depending on student abilities, preferences, and experience, students may choose to answer one section or all of them,
  • The graphic organizer works with all subject areas and is easily adapted to suit a variety of learners.
  • Consider enlarging at a local printing company or education agency to use as an anchor chart or large group teaching tool.
  • Enlarge on an Elmo, overhead projector, or interactive whiteboard for whole group instruction.
  • Use as part of carousel brainstorming.
  • Assign specific students or specific groups particular columns, boxes, or rows and then share those with other students or groups.
  • Cut apart the document on the lines and use as a game board/puzzle/review activity. Photographs can be made of these for record keeping and sharing purposes. This can also be sent home as a review, communication, and sharing tool.
  • Print on cardstock and laminate. This allows the document to be used repeatedly by writing on it with dry erase or wet erase markers. Photographs or photocopies can be made of these for record keeping and sharing purposes.
  • Use as part of interactive notebooks. Print size may need to be adjusted depending on the size of notebooks being used.
  • Use a variety of colored inks, pencils, markers, and highlighters to increase retention, personalization, and engagement.
