Strategy-style board game meets review session meets interactive technology! "Obstruction" is an engaging and fast-paced way to spice up your review day. You provide a set of 15-20 questions, power up the SmartBoard, and lace up your sneakers, because you'll be dashing around the room checking answers and giving feedback. If your students are like mine, they will be zipping to the SmartBoard, answering questions feverishly, and plotting their next move. Once, a student leapt over a chair to get to the SmartBoard and move his game piece! (I then had to make a new rule to the tune of "no jumping over the furniture.")
How to Play:
Each team is assigned a colored square. You provide review questions. Student teams answer one question at a time. If correct, they drag a square onto the game grid. With each correct answer, the team can connect squares to create a chain. They can also place a square so that it OBSTRUCTS another team's chain. The team with the longest chain at the end of the game wins!
My favorite part of this activity is that all students are engaged at the same time, and they don't have to sit idly while another team takes a turn. Another great benefit is that the ability to block opponents keeps teams interested in the game even if they don't have a chance at winning.
I hope you give Obstruction a try and let me know how it goes!
