I think it is important to display my student’s work in the classroom. They work harder when they know it will be up for everyone to see and are often found showing off their work to their classmates. I think art is an important part of the curriculum so I try to incorporate it into their work. This unit features a shark with a “can have are” activity, a circle map and a writing activity from the book, Smiley Shark and the Great Big Hiccup by Ruth Galloway. There is also a craftivity with the book Mister Seahorse by Eric Carle. This activity allows students to recall information about the fish from the story and recreate them. Finally, there are activities from the book, The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. I have included a problem and solution activity, character analysis and a Venn Diagram to compare The Rainbow Fish to Big Al by Andrew Clements Yoshi .
All of these activities support reading elements from Common Core.
