Listening for Details pgs 3-16 Read short passages about a variety of ocean creatures (pgs 3-10). A bonus set of “Deep Sea Mysteries” are included from page 11-16. Each passage is followed up with 3 questions about specific facts & details. These facts will come in handy for additional activities such as comparing/contrasting and describing!
Vocabulary Fill-in-the-Blank pg 17: Use information from the text and the word bank to fill-in-the-blank with the correct vocabulary word.
Compare and Contrast pgs 18-24: Using visual supports, students can choose 2 ocean creatures/mysteries to compare and contrast. There are color and black & white versions of creatures/mysteries.
Descriptions pgs 25-29: Students can use visual supports/graphic organizer to describe a creature/mystery of their choice by 4 details (category, function, and attributes). Allow students to use short passages from pages 3-16 to find more fun facts about a creature/mystery of their choice!
Animal Match-Up pgs 30-36: Read the facts and details to describe a given creature/mystery. Students must use their listening skills and pictures to decide which creature/mystery is being described.
Prepositions pg 37: Students can cut and color pictures of animals. They must listen to the teacher for prepositions (next to, under, etc.) to paste pictures in the correct space on the ocean scene.
Coloring Page pg 38: Use as reinforcement throughout activities.
