Students create a simulated ocean current by letting colored water flow out of a pinhole in a paper cup into a surrounding tub of water. They then create a warm water current and a cold water current and watch to see how they interact with each other. Students learn about ocean currents and by extension about air currents. The activity is carried out using a guided scientific method; students will make a hypothesis, identify independent and dependent variables and controls, carry out the experiment, make notes and sketches, and draw conclusions.
