Beautiful and simplistic view of ocean floor topography and important ocean features. The graphical model and landform depiction is very similar to the Atlantic Ocean basin. This is a multi-level activity geared towards elementary levels, select middle school science classes, and special education. This was used successfully in a 7th grade earth and space science classroom with inclusion students and students struggling with traditional classroom instruction methods. This was also used in place of a vocabulary assessment. Terminology and features covered include: Beach, Continental Shelf, Sea Level, Abyssal Plain, Mid Ocean Ridge, Island, Seamount, and Continental Slope. This activity can be cut and paste or Velcro and laminated.
Within the classroom, this activity has been consistently very successful and acclaimed by students in grades 4th – 9th within multiple types of schools - public, private, and charter.
Has been applied to state mandated North Carolina end of year tests for science in grades 5 and 8.
