Your preschool/kindergarteners will be so proud of themselves when they are able to 'read' the names that go with each picture! This is a huge confidence booster for little ones!
Teach your students to use their newly learned reading skills to figure out which word goes with which picture. For example: If the picture is 'sun' have your students look through the word cards and pull out just the ones that start with the /s/ sound. They will pull out sun, shell, and starfish. Now have them look at the ending sounds. Look for the only word that ends with /n/. Using beginning and ending sound clues can help your students figure out the different matches. Be sure to tell them what the name of each object is before they start. They may be looking at shell and think it is a clam for example.
This makes a great center for independent work or a little activity during reading.
