Ocean pollution is a critical environmental issue. The purpose of this activity is to help students understand the effects of oil spills on the environment and the difficulties associated with their clean-up in a fun, engaging atmosphere.
Students will simulate an environmental disaster clean-up and analyze the effectiveness of materials used. Students will have to create a budget and a plan on how they plan to clean up the area. It should also be clear that when working in the environment there are many factors that individuals cannot control; such as wildlife population and weather.
This activity includes teacher instructions, lab handout, lab questions and an answer key. This activity can be used nicely with the "Ocean Pollution: Oil Spill Clean Up Methods".
