Ocean Pollution is a critical environmental issue. The purpose of this activity is to help students understand the methods used in cleaning up oil spills. Students will gain an understanding of the effectiveness of various methods, including the environmental impacts of the clean up.
Students will research various methods that are used to clean up oil spills explaining the positive and negative aspects as well as in which situation each method would be best used. Students will then research a major oil spill indicating key facts and describing methods used in the clean up attempt and write a Newspaper editorial on the event.
This activity includes a chart with the various oil spill clean up methods for students to complete (with answer key) along with a template for a Newspaper editorial. This activity can be used in conjunction with "Ocean Pollution: Oil Spill Clean Up Lab".
