Resource Directions:

Fish Literature List: Choose books to read to your students about fish.

Fish Cracker Tags: I would use these tags for our Open House, but they can be used the first day of school too. I would be a handful in a baggie and then tie this tag to the bag.

Classroom Book:

All About Fish Classroom Book: Copy cover on cardstock and then copy a sheet for each student and have them write what they know fish can be or do. Collect each student paper and make classroom book binding or stapling book together.

Student Bookle & Worksheets:

How Many Fish Booklet: Students would work on this booklet throughout the first week of school practicing their colors and numbers. You can copy the pages on regular paper, they are printed so you can copy back to back to make individual student booklets.

Rainbow Fish Crackers Graph: After reading the book, One fish, two fish, red fish blue fish, give students a handful of crackers and they would have to graph the crackers accordingly, coloring the fish and the squares with the appropriate colors.

Rainbow Fish Story Parts Organizer (2 types): After reading a fish story a few times, have students fill out the story parts organizer . They can either draw or write their answers on the sheet in the
appropriate box.

Art Project:

Rainbow Fish Art Project: After reading the book The Rainbow Fish each student was given a fish template on cardstock, cut it out and decorate it. I would have our 4th grade buddies help with this activity, but if your students are older they can do it themselves. Students can decorate their fish with tissue paper, markers,, crayons or what ever you had available. We would give students a little square piece of foil to make the sparkly scales, they could cut it up and have many sparkly scales or just keep it as one scale. We would finish them off with a wiggly eye and decorate our hallway with them.

Literacy Centers:

Fish Match Upper & Lowercase Letter Game: Memory Game: Children can play this by placing the cards face down in rows. They take turns turning two cards over to see if the upper and lowercase letters match. If they do they keep both cards, if not they turn the cards back over and the next child has a turn. The person who has the most matches wins the game. Matching Game: Children just match up the uppercase and lowercase letters.

Fish Color Word Match Game: Memory Game: Children can play this by placing the cards face down in rows. They take turns turning two cards over to see if they match the same colored fish, one fish begins with the lowercase letter, the other with the upeerecase letter. If they do they keep both cards, if not they turn the cards back over and the next child has a turn. The person who has the most matches wins the game. Matching Game: Children just match up the same colored fish with the same color words.

Math Centers:

Fish 0-20 Number Word Match : Children read the number and number word on the cards and find the matching quanitiy of fish card. Example: If the card is number word "five" they must find the card that has the 5 fish on it to make a match.
