Penguin Literature List:
Choose books to read to your students about penguins.
“The Penguin ” Classroom Book:
Copy cover on cardstock and then copy a sheet for each student and have them write a fact about penguins. Collect each student paper and make classroom book binding or stapling book together.
“If I Were a Penguin” Classroom Book:
Copy cover on cardstock and then copy a sheet for each student and have them write some fact they learned from the book, If You Were a Penguin. . Collect each student paper and make classroom book binding or stapling book together
Tacky the Penguin Story Organizers
(2 types): After reading the story a few times, have students fill out the story parts organizer . They can either draw or write their answers on the sheet in the
Penguin Acrostic Poem:
Make a copy for each students and have them write things they know about penguins using the first letters in the word penguin.. Note: For my students who were younger we did this activity with our 4th grade buddies.
Penguin Venn Diagram
: After reading many books about the different kinds of penguins, students pick two penguins to compare. With younger students we did this as a group together, older students could handle this on their own as long as they are familiar with how to use a Venn diagram.
Penguins Fact Sheet:
After reading many books about the different kinds of penguins students fill out his fact sheet about penguins. With younger students we did this together or with our 4th grade buddies, older students should be able to do this sheet.
Penguin Art Project:
Using the pegnuin parts templates and following the directions on this page students will make a penguin. On the belly of the penguin students are to write two or three facts that they have learned about the penguin.
Penguin Sight Word Game: Word Game:
Children place cards face down and take turns drawing a card. If student can read the word, they keep it, if they cannot they must put it back. If they draw a Cloud or Sun Card follow its directions They must read all their cards, the person who has the most cards wins. Memory Game: Make two sets of the word cards and children place the cards face down in rows. They take turns turning two cards over to see if they have matched the same words. If it does they keep both cards, if not they turn the cards back over and the next child has a turn. The person who has the most matches wins the game!
Penguin Subtraction Card Game: Matching Game:
Children match up penguin number sentence with the quanity of penguins on the card. Memory Game: Children can play this by placing the cards face down in rows. They take turns turning two cards over to see if they the subtraction sentences match with the quanity card. If they do they keep both cards, if not they turn the cards back over and the next child has a turn. The person who has the most matches wins the game.
