This Ocean Themed Real & Nonsense Word Sorting game has students practice their phonemic and word decoding skills by sorting real and nonsense words. Have some ocean fun with this free literacy activity
Resource Prep: Print, laminate and cut all game cards and t-chart. If students are writing words on t-chart, print out as many t-charts as needed on regular copy paper. Directions to the game are also located on one of the game sheets.

✤ 16 Nonsense Words Ocean Themed Game Cards
✤ 25 Real Words Ocean Themed Game Cards
✤ 1 Colored T-Chart for Word Sorting
✤ 1 Black & White Master T-Chart for Student Writing
Resource Description:
Ocean Real & Nonsense Words: Children place cards face down and take turns drawing a card. The student reads words and decides whether it is a real word or nonsense words. Child checks with a partner or group to make sure he/she is accurate.
The child writes or places words on t-chart on a whiteboard or use sheet provided in this resource (each student may have a sheet or you could use one sheet for the whole game). The next person takes a turn. Play until all cards have been used.
