These daily writing prompts are a simple way of instilling the expectation that writing is an important and integral part of our classroom. Each day students are expected to write for ten minutes. The following prompts can be used to help facilitate student work. The idea, however, behind daily writing is that students will also be
able to bring their own ideas to class to write about.
Using it in the classroom In my own personal classroom, I set a timer for ten minutes and expect students to write those entire ten minutes. I do not require students to follow the prompt, they can work on a previous one or write their own story. The important part is that they are engaging in writing. After the ten minutes, I ask for students to share. This is another important piece to daily writing. In order to become a more confident writer it is important to hear good writing. Share your writing, too! This is by far my favorite component of daily writing.
