This resource includes 3 easy to implement October themed Literacy Centers. The concepts covered include building compound words, sorting by syllables, and rhyming words. All activities are straight-line cuts to make prep super easy!
1. Build a Compound Word
Students will read a word and find its appropriate match to build a real compound word. This activity is great for not only reading practice, but allows students the opportunity to differentiate between real and non-sense words.
2. Syllable Sort
Students will read the picture card and sort it according to the number of syllables (1, 2 or 3). Students will then complete the Syllable Sort worksheet which includes circling pictures by color code to indicate the number of syllables. This game is great for emergent readers or ELA students, as it allows practice of simple picture/word recognition.
3. Rhyming Go Fish
Play this game just like regular Go Fish, however students will read and try to match rhyming words. Students will say "Do you have the rhyming word for ______?" This activity promotes reading of simple CVC words and also reinforces the concept of rhymes.
