Year Long Writing Bundle and Word Work Activities

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
♥36 MONTHLY WORD CARDS: These cards include adorable clipart from TPT’s most popular clip artists! These cards include thematic, seasonal, or holiday words that your students can use as a spelling reference or you may choose to place the words in your Word Work station for your students to do activities with. Simply laminate, hole punch, and place them on a ring or put them in a container. Another suggestion might be to display them on a word wall if you have the space in your writing center so that students can easily view.

♥MONTHLY WRITING MENU for PERSONAL NARRATIVES: This menu is intended to be printed, laminated, or inserted into a sheet protector, and placed in the writing center for students to access if they are at a loss of writing ideas. We sure don’t want our students spending 10 minutes of their writing time “THINKING” about what to write, so this menu can ignite their thoughts.

♥20 ENGAGING WRITING PROMPTS:
1. Write about someone who is a role model in your life.
2. Write a story about a scarecrow that came to life.
3. If you could have any superhero power, describe which one you
would choose and explain how you would use it.
4. Describe your idea of the perfect Halloween costume.
5. Explain how you would make S’mores.
6. Write a list of important safety rules that you should follow when
you go trick or treating.
7. Describe your favorite Halloween candy.
8. If you could be an explorer like Christopher Columbus and travel to
a new land, where would you go and why?
9. Write a friendly letter to a tree and persuade it to keep its leaves.
10. October is SENSATIONAL. Write about the colors, smells, tastes,
sounds, and feelings of an autumn day.
11. Explain how you would scare a crow if that was you job.
12. October is National Pizza Month. Describe how you would make
the perfect pizza.
13. October is National Fire Prevention Month. List some safety tips
that can keep you safe in case of a fire.
14. Tell about something that frightens you.
15. What’s Brewing? Write a creepy recipe for Witch’s Brew.
Remember to include all of the ingredients and explain how to
make it.
16. Your mom has left you in charge of planning a fall party for your
friends. Explain what you are going to do to prepare.
17. In honor or National Red Ribbon Week, write a friendly letter to
yourself to explain the dangers of taking illegal drugs. Include a
promise to yourself that you will never take bad drugs.
18. Write about a person you know that is kind.
19. If you could trade places with an owl and be nocturnal for a night,
tell about the adventures you would have while your family was
asleep.
20. Pretend you are an animal that must prepare for winter. What
animal are you and how are you going to prepare?

♥WRITING RUBRIC: A student friendly rubric for students to use in order to evaluate their writing samples. The rubric is in a “yes/no” format. Your students can simply check the boxes as they apply.

♥AUTHORS WITH AUTHORITY: This is a great writing tool for students to keep in the front of their writing journal or in their binder! It is full of friendly writing tips that students often misuse. As the year unfolds, you can individualize the scaffolding of these pointers…fewer skills for students below grade level, and additional skills for students on or above grade level. These guidelines can be introduced based on the developmental age of your students or ability level.
