Why not give your students important practice using place value while celebrating Thanksgiving, Harvest or the arrival of Fall?
In this activity the students will count collections of place value blocks and then color their answer with a corresponding color. It is like a color by numbers only using place value blocks and a 100s chart.
Place value is a very important concept for primary children to work on. Being able to relate numbers to corresponding images, such as place value blocks, will greatly help them with their addition and subtraction work, especially when they start working with two digit numbers.
This file contains three pages:
1) A blank 100s chart
2) A page of place value images for the students to count.
3) An answer key showing the final image.
The final image your students will create is a large orange pumpkin!
As a fun extension, you could have early finishers color some squares black to create a face for their pumpkin. Then, draw the place value blocks representing these black squares on the back of the paper so others can replicate their jack o' lantern.
This file is also available as an 11x17 file so that one sheet can contain both the place value clues and the 100s chart. Please visit my store to get that file as well as see many more Math Mystery pictures for various themes, seasons, & holidays! Math Mystery pictures are available for practice in place value, multiplication, addition, subtraction, and more.
I am selling a Halloween Pumpkin set of both this pumpkin and a jack o' lantern for only 50 cents more! This is a great set to use if you have students that do not celebrate Halloween as children can choose to either do the jack o' lantern or the pumpkin. You can also find other 100s Chart coloring sheets for place value, addition, subtraction, & multiplication in my store.
