This lit log can be used as a guide for a read aloud (best for about 3rd grade), and it can also be used for guided reading or literature circles.
The main focus skills of the lit log are: referring to details in a text when explaining the text and when drawing inferences; determining the theme of a story from details; summarizing; describing in depth a character, setting, or event; and determining the meaning of words as they are used in a text.
For each chapter there is one key question and one personal response. Sentence starters are provided for support for those students who need them. Vocabulary words are presented in most of the chapters. Also, included are end of book activity choices and an answer key.
Important themes addressed in this novel are: overcoming bullying, being yourself, friendship, and being a new kid in school.
