Students need to be able to have strong concepts of numbers and their properties before they can truly understand more difficult concepts and complete rigorous tasks. Understanding whether a number is odd or even helps students begin to understand the patterns in math and in numbers. Understanding these math patterns are building steps before they work on more difficult tasks such as division, multiplication and prime numbers,
to name a few.
In this center, students practice determining if a number is odd or even. There are several ways this center is differentiated to meet the needs of your students. There are numbers from 1-20 to meet the standard. There are also cards with dot frames for your students that may need a little more assistance. Then the center is enriched with the remaining 2-digit numbers as well as 3-digit numbers. Your students are all at different levels and this center is perfect for supporting them where they are!
After students are comfortable with determining if a number is odd or even, they move on to a game where they conclude if the sum of two numbers is odd or even. Can students identify this pattern?
The additional resources can be used as class practice, homework, or even as an assessment.
