Phonics instruction typically focuses on /ea/ says long /e/ and /ie/ says long /e/. Instruction needs to include /ea/ says short /e/ and long /a/ and /ie/ says long /i/. Attached are word lists and sentences to help with this task. The word lists are broken up into sections focusing on each different sound. Ten sentences come after the word lists to reinforce the skill. Our language is complicated, hence the name Oddball Words and Sentences.
