I love this quick activity that asks students to do exactly what Teiresias asks Oedipus to do after saying a riddle: "Go think that over." The activity asks students to figure out the meaning of the riddle found in Teiresias' prophecy.
The sheet contains the following quote:
“A blind man, who has his eyes now ; a penniless man, who is rich now; and he will go tapping the strange earth with his staff . To the children with whom he lives now he will be brother and father – the very same; to her who bore him, son and husband – the very same who came to his father’s bed, wet with his father’s blood .”
The activity has different parts of the quote highlighted with a corresponding question to help them figure out the meaning on their own. This is a great student-centered learning activity. It is fun to watch the kid's reactions as they figure out the prophecy!
