Of Mice and Men Activity Packet
This is my new very comprehensive bundle of instructional resources and activities related to the classic novel, Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck. It is meant to give you variety and choice on what to do with each chapter. This bundle includes,
1) An active reading scavenger hunt for each chapter (with 2 scavenger hunts for chapter 3)
These are active reading scavenger hunts with 32-37 questions where students actively hunt for information and analyze the text while they read the story. These activities also engage the students by enhancing enjoyment, and understanding. It focuses on important events and twists in plot, vocabulary, and conflicts and also highlights important examples of figurative language found in the story. My scavenger hunts are always a hit with my high school kids. Answer sheets are included. I have also provided Word and PDF versions of these activities.
2) Word Detective/Word Attack vocabulary activities for all chapters of the story.
These are word detective-word attack and close reading Vocabulary Activities. Your students act as vocabulary detectives and use their word attack skills to determine the meaning of each new word in context. First students read actual passages and dialogues from the story and use contextual clues to determine the meaning and part of speech of each new word. They must provide at least one synonym for each new word. Then they use a thesaurus or dictionary to check their comprehension and find more synonyms for each word. . Answer sheets as well as PDF and Word versions are included.
3) Six separate Crossword Puzzles for each of the chapters.
These are challenging and comprehensive crossword puzzles related to the characters, events, and vocabulary in each Chapter of this classic novel,
I have included both the crossword weaver and PDF versions of the puzzle as well as an answer puzzle. They are very comprehensive and great assessment activities.
I have also included the crossword clues to make it easier to edit and recreate your own puzzles.
4) Figurative Language worksheets/quizzes for each of the chapters.
These include a figurative language workshop which teaches your students the concepts of figurative language such as simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, oxymoron, and synecdoche. There are three worksheets with more than 100 examples of figurative language used in the story. They can be used interchangeably as worksheets or quizzes. Answer sheet are included.
I don’t think that you will find a more comprehensive and fun bundle for this story anywhere.
