Before reading the classic novella, a popular activity is to complete a WebQuest. The ones on the internet now are full of outdated links, so this year I revised this entire project. Students are given a role to explore and have to answer certain questions centered around social consciousness of the 1930's. Students will create a Google Slide presentation with their answers to the questions in their assigned role. I break the class up and have them work individually- they do not actually GIVE the presentation. This year, I also created a Google Form as a follow-up so the whole class could read one another's work before reading the book. I shared the best of each role on Google Classroom and then had students fill out a form answering questions about what they learned from each presentation. There is a website credibility test in here that I made my students fill out before committing to a source, and you'll find the rubric at the end of the document.
