Often students are given chapter study questions to answer while they are reading. The intent is to allow students to recall important information or analyze important details; however, often students just skim their reading to find the answers. This focusing note sheet will allow students to be more independent reading. It will require that they identify and analyze the important details on their own. For each chapter their is a focusing idea or question that students should be thinking about and looking for details on while reading. There is one note sheet per chapter, with the exception of chapter 3 that has been broken into two sections.
For struggling students, the teacher could give students a few pieces of information to analyze, and then have students find a few on their own. This is a great way to build independence!
