This document contains 10 basic and higher-level sets of discussion questions. The purpose is for the students to form opinions about the outcome of the novel and determine how every character had an impact on the conclusion. Students must back up their answers with text-based evidence and be able to defend their opinions. At the conclusion of answering the questions, students are to discuss their answers and opinions in small groups. Following is an example of one set of questions.
1. It is believed that it’s Curley’s wife’s fault that Lennie died. At what point in the book does she become responsible?
2. What quote from the book shows it’s her fault that things escalated out of control?
3. Do you think it’s Curley’s wife’s fault that Lennie died? Why or why not?
