I use this with my students during our reading of Of Mice and Men. This activity effectively scaffolds writing a thematic analysis at the end of the unit. Students identify possible big ideas, quotes, and analyze using the "Say/Mean/Matter" strategy. When they go to write a final essay or other writing assignment analyzing the theme of the novella, they can use these as their brainstorming and outline for their body paragraphs.
Share a digital copy and have students type on it OR simply print and pass out. This is an editable word doc so you can adapt to your classroom needs.
