The moral dilemma at the end is whether George should kill Lennie. It's easy for students to say he should; a bit harder to say he shouldn't. Before discussing the morality of George's decision, loosen the ground and prepare your students with this activity. It will help them consider what George is going through by imagining the voices and points of view that must be surging through his head. This activity contains a template for having your class generate a script, a reflection or exit slip, questions to use before a debate on this topic, and a very thorough, finished script for 12 characters that you can use. It's been used in the classroom with great results. If you want your students to do the creative writing, the template will give you a format and the script will show an example of a finished product. If you use the script, you will save hours of preparation. The preview contains part of the template and about 1/8 of the script. included also are the Lyrics and an activity for "I Dreamed a Dream" and a handout and guide using the excellent 1939 movie of Of Mice and Men and comparing it with the book.
