This Word document is a synopsis of the plot of the novel by John Steinbeck in "Fill in the blanks" format.
It is divided into six chapters. Students demonstrate their understanding of the plot by completing the cloze.
I find this a very useful approach with weaker students at the end of each chapter. Alternatively I use it as an aid to revision, when we have finished the novel. In this case, it suits both strong and weak students. It is an active learning activity. Most students seem to love filling in the blanks. They get a great sense of achievement from this activity.
There are 14 pages in total. The exercise consists of 7 pages. The remaining pages contain the solution.
