Make learning fun and check your students' reading comprehension for the novel, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, with this activity that uses cooperative learning. Throughout this PowerPoint, teams of students recall characters, plot, setting, symbols, literary devices (idiom, foreshadowing, simile, metaphor, and dialect) in order to compete to shoot baskets into a trash can. There are 25 questions in total.
Research shows that students often learn best when they can move, and this game motivates them with their love of sports. When you put your students in heterogeneous groups for a game with friendly competition, it is an excellent way to meet the needs of all of your students and reward them for their success. Students are sure to remember their reading of Of Mice and Men with this engaging activity.
The Power Point includes slides with the rules, instructions for the teacher, and a key.
Game questions may be edited to fit the needs of your students.
